How does a parcel thats been scanned get lost on transit?

Ordered an item, it was meant to be delivered by Yodel. However, that was on the 9th January! Still never arrived! I finally managed to get in touch with 13ten who advised the item went to the wrong warehouse, and have conducted a search of the item but have now stated it’s been lost in transit!! How does a parcel thats been scanned get lost on transit?!
I have written a complain to Yodel. Let’s see what the response is!
